Abstract In this unit students should see how the end of the war didn’t immediately mean that slavery was over. They should learn how the different amendments were written to give rights but also that they had limitations and how some of the freedoms still needed to be fought for years later. They should also see how Reconstruction impacted the economies of the southern states and what it meant for freed slaves.
